Located in the edge of the original city of Rijndam, Noorderpoort is the location of the former northern city gate.
Noorderpoort used to be the terminus of metro services, situated closely to Rijndam Noorderpoort train station. In 2006, the railways which where serviced by this train station where added to the metro network (and the former surface railway station was closed down and removed). Since then, only rush hour extra's terminate at Noorderpoort, while other metro services continue to Panbos (M1) and the Airport (M4).
