Along side with the RSG3 the SG3 stock was the fourth type of passenger rolling stock on the metro system of Rotterdam. The trains were built between 2009 and 2011 and are completely identical to the RSG3 stock. The colour marks the only difference between the two series. The trains are mainly operational on Metrolijn A, B and C and elsewhere on the network if necessary. The fleet consists of 42 sets.

History

In 2006, RET order 64 of these new Trains, 22 for the RandstadRail Hofplein Lijn and 42 for the RET Rotterdam Metro Network.

Design

The SG3 Design consist of Three Cars on Bombardier Flexity Design rather than having two Cars use on the City Shift Bombardier MG2/1 and SG2/1 and having Orange DMI and Newer AC Motors which have a Faster Acceleration then the AC Motors on the MG2/1 and SG2/1 and the DC Motors on the SG2.

Cars

Although the Earlier Rotterdam Metro Sets have a A Car and a B Car, the SG3 Sets have a A car, a B Car and a C Car.

Safety

The SG3 Sets were protected by the ATB system and ZUB system and have the Maximum speed of 100 km/h rather than 80 km/h on the MG2/1, SG2/1 and SG2 and 70 km/h on the MG2 and SG2 before Midlife.

Replacment

The SG3 Sets Enter Service in 2009 on the Rotterdam metro network to replace the older Duwag Sets (SG2).

Similarity to the RSG3 Stock

The SG3 Sets is Indicial to the RSG3 Sets on Metrolijn E but Different Livery.

Livery

The RSG3 Sets are in RandstadRail White with Blue Roof Lines and Blue Doors with RET Logos place at the front ends and sides above the windows on the train, the SG3 Sets are in the RET grey with Red and Green Stripes with White RET logo on the Stripes.

Set Number

They are Numbered as 5601-5642

Sets 5601-5611, 5616, 5619-5621, 5623-5629, 5631-5642 are operating on Metrolijn A, B, C and D and Sets 5612-5615,5617-5618, 5622 and 5630 are operated on All Metro Lines in Rotterdam Metro.

Set 5610 was involved in a Level Crossing Accident in Metrolijn A and B.

Sets 5601-5602 Enter Service on the Calandlijn which later became Metrolijn A, B and C in 2009.

Sets 5612-5613 Enter Service on Metrolijn E in 2010.

Sets 5614-5615 Enter Service on Metrolijn D in 2014.

In Simvliet

In Simvliet 2013, These trains were used during Events and they can Coupled with the RSG3 Stock due to having the Same Couplers Like those on MG2/1 and SG2/1 and They have Orange DMI rather than having the Blinds (MG2/1 5301-5342) and Green DMI (MG2/1 5343-5363 and SG2/1), but they have different Couplers due to the SG2 have two Electrical Connections and the Bombardier build Trains have a Single Electrical Connections and the SG2 have Blinds at both ends of the train and SG2 have DC Traction motors whine the Bombardier trains have AC Traction Motors for faster Acceration and they can brake Quickly and Shorter than the SG2.

In Simvliet 2017, these Trains were Fully used on all Three Lines Throughout the Day plus New Extensions to Araplein in 2017 and Lelywaard in 2016 on Lines A and C.

Operating Range

The SG3 can Operate on all Electrified Lines in Simvliet because they have ATB and ZUB which they can Swtich right before Arriving Stadionweg or Departing Stadionweg. Plus they have Third Rail Shoes and Overhead Pantograph for both Third Rail and Overhead Lines.
