When you have done the Starting Tutorial its now time to drive a train. But how to drive it? Here you will find it out.

Placing a train (Explore only)

In explore mode you need to place your train before you can use it. For placing a train you go to the left side with your mouse. Click on the train icon. Now you see a screen with all the trains available in this beta version. Select the train of your choice and the amount of the trains by pressing the add button. After that select the station were you want to place your train. When done press OK and the train was loaded on the selected station.
Warning Icon.png The beta does not yet check if the track is free, be careful not to place 2 trains at the same start point. Warning Icon.png

Select your train and get in

Before you can start your train you first need to select it. You can select your train in the consist bar in the bottom of the screen. On the left side of the consist bar you can scroll to all the trains loaded on that moment. Click on the cab to get in the train.

Starting the train

The first point before you can drive is to start the train. To start the train press Ctrl+F4. Now you be able to drive the train. If you stay on a station with overhead wire you can't drive directly, you have to put the pantograph up with Ctrl+P, now the train has power to drive. This last step is only for overhead wired tracks.

Standard driving

Beside the ATB (read that page for information about the ATB) you can drive now. To drive forward first be sure the train is in PZ throttle (MG2,SG2 and RSG2) or in Rij throttle (RSG3 and SG3). You can chance that with the Q, and W, keys. Then you can press the >, for more traction or the <, for the brakes. You can see your speed and the maximum speed in your front. For braking is a maximum of 4.00 for the MG2,SG2 and RSG2 and a maximum of 0.75 for the RSG3 and SG3 comfortable for the passengers. For throttle is no maximum.

Proffessional Driving

Prior to the start at the depot

In this subject you will learn how to drive the Metro in a proffesional way as real as it gets.

In this introduction of proffessional driving it is recommended to have a proper chair/seat behind a steady Desk Check out all wiring of your PC and keyboard. Check out the Monitior and sound system.

The start will be at the depot. When entering the drivers room then notify the service you have to drive, Study the information like the warrants, procedures and enhanched information in order to the service you have to drive, so you will not surprised when you're driving.

A departure list in the drivers room tells you normaly which trains on which track is set for your service. At the RET driversroom there are tiny memo/notes containing three major issues which you have to fill out according the train dispatching list. Three major things: train consists (a set of train/waggon numbers) the track where the train is situated and the departing direction.

Now take your coffee (or tea) an have your little newspaper time.

When done you now go outside to the right track and check the trainnumbers in the trainconsist as you had already noted on your tiny memo.

All traintypes

Walk to the rear of the train and check in the meanwhile if there is some damage at the outside. Do so only from the serviceplatform. DO NOT step in between the trains and DO NOT walk across the track without permission of the CVL. Because there is High Voltage and this is deadly. The currency is 750-800 Volts DC.

Check out the automatic coupler if the coupler is set properly and the electrical connection box is closed by a special lit. When the coupler is still open then you have to rest the coupler manualy. Now you have to get at the track and pull the red wire which is situated in the coupler. At the electic cover there is a red lever which should be put in the up-right position (If not the cover of the electrical connection will be set in place by moving the lever). When the Wire is atthe side of the 3rd rail then leave the coupler for as it is untill you will have the possibilty somewhere later on to pull the red wire from a save position. REMEMBER: Your safety!

Now get in the cabin at the rear of the train and activate that cabin. Switch on the interior lights of the complete train. Check the ATB Cabsignal, it should show "ATB in", "Yellow 20" or "Yellow 10". Check out if the "High Voltage" (Hoogspanning) light is litted (lunar-white).

The B type train (Not in Beta 3.6)
Now the RIS screen will start up (not available in the Sim) in the meanwhile check out the left closet (Not available in the Sim) for the safety-flashlight-box if it is present and if the lights will work, Check out if the Red Flag is present, check out if the lockerhooks ain place (to lock a door manualy at situations or door-erros) and check out if the walky-talky is present.

Now step into the cabin and set your train service number in the RIS screen. Put on the CVL Radio and set the train service number again in that radio (not in the sim available) the display of the CVL Radio should normally show the trainnumber and radiochannel like this: 091/905 (Channel 91 service 905) This is at the RET a service at the D line between Spijkenisse and Rotterdam Central Station. Make contact with the CVL in order to test the radio. after approval, switch off the radio and lock the cabin. Bu shure it is properly locked in order to avoid entrance of travellers.

Checking the doors

Step outside the train (Keyboard 9, use arrows to look at the front) and check out the front lights there should be 3 lights litted in an A model. Now open and watch the doors at the right side above the side window and close them, watch the Green Door-Arrow light. Do the same for the left side. Now sit down and repeat the left and right side using the buttons at the driversconsole itself do so for the left side and then the right side.

After activation of the systems you now deactivate the cabin, strike the test button and check out if all lights will lit and acoustic signals are alarming. When Ok shut down the cabin and lock the door, the train itself will remain in startup mode.

Walk through the train to the next cabin/helperconsole and while walking check out the emergency glasses and brake appliers if they are properly set in place at every doorside and emergency brake. When a glass is lacking or broken you have to disable that door. This will be explained later on. Check also the complete interior of the train for any damage.

Repeat this sequence for every waggon in your trainconsist untill you ended up in the cabin you'll start to drive. When entering the last cabin repeat the sequences and now set the destination in the RIS. Now put on the CVL radio, set the train service number and channel. This number should be identical to the radionumber at the rear of the train.

Now there should be some room at the track to make some running tests. Set the drivers switch in the position: "Rij" and give 10% thrust untill you reach a speed of about 5 km/h. Switch the thrustlever free (0% thrust) and check if the roll-out is normal. Then apply the rail brakes emergency brakes in order to test these brakes.

When everything is OK, report yourself ready for service at the CVL. Check now the ATB Cabsignalling and the dwarf/shuntersignal. You must have Green 35 and two white lights at the dwarf/shunter signal in order to depart.

Now the first part is done, you are now driving to the first station to pick up passengers.
