The SG2 stock was the second type of passenger rolling stock on the metro system of Rotterdam, and is technical almost identical to the MG2 stock. The trains were built between 1980 and 1984 and were originally coloured blue/orange-red. The entire fleet got a technical overhaul between 1997 and 2001. During this overhaul the trains were repainted in their current grey/green/red outfit. The trains are mainly operational on Metrolijn A, B and C and will used on Metrolijn D if necessary. The trains are equipped with pantographs for overhead wire as well as shoes for third rail. The fleet consists of 71 sets.

History

The Oost-West Lijn Open in 1982 and They also Serve the Noord-South lijn in 1980 Between Centraal Station open in 1968 to Spijkenese open in 1985 Oringaly Hoogvliet and Zalmplaat Which was the Former terminus, in 1997, both the Noord-South Lijn and Oost-West lijn to became Erasmuslijn and Calandlijn unitl December 2009, these were dropped in the Favorite of letters and Colours which became Metrolijn A, B and C (Calandlijn) and Metrolijn D (Erasmuslijn), The trains Cannot operate on the Hofplein Lijn between Rotterdam Hofplein and Den Haag Centraal later Metrolijn E (Hofplein Lijn) between Rotterdam Centraal and Den Haag Centraal due to ZUB Protection System on the line.

Livery

When SG2 Stock Enter Service in 1980 to 1984, these sets were in the original Blue and Orange/Red Livery and Yellow Mustache with the M Letter on it when Fitted to the Exterior ends of the SG2 Sets in 1988.

When SG2 Sets went for Midlife Revision from 1997 to 2001 and was repainted in RET Grey, Red and Green with Shadow M at the Ends of the SG2 Sets Livery, Set 5201 was repainted in RET Grey and Light Green with Red Doors. Set 5201 was repainted with RET Grey, Red and Green with Shadow M on the Ends of Set 5201. Set 5222 was Repainted in RET Grey, Red and Green with Shadowless M on the ends of set 5222. Set 5222 Shadowless M was Replaced with Shadow M on the Ends of Set 5222.

Midlife Revision

Between 1997 and 2002, Set 5201 was in the RET Grey, Light Green and Red Doors Livery while the rest of the fleet has RET Grey, Dark Green and Red Line with Grey Doors. Then Set 5201 was Repainted to RET Grey, Dark Green and Red Line with Grey Doors.

RandstadRail Conversion

Between 2005 and 2006, Sets 5261-5271 was been Converted from the SG2 Stocks and had it's ATB system Replaced by the ZUB system and have Red Seats instead of Green Seats when RandstadRail was taking over the Hofplein Line from Nederlandse Spoorwegen and Replace the ATB Signaling with the ZUB 222c Signaling and Alstom Citadis Tram-Trains Enter Service on RandstadRail 3 and 4, The RSG2 Stock was Repainted into RandstadRail Grey with Blue Doors and Red Line and Blue Circles, but These trains were Withdrawn in 2009 after The RSG3 Enter Service on the Hofplein Line in 2008 and was Send to Remise 's-Gravenweg.

Replacement

These Sets were Replaced by the SG3 Sets between 2013 to 2014 which 56 Sets (Including the RSG2 Sets) were sent for scrap, Bursa to work on the Bursaray Rapid Transit in Turkey or Germany

Bursaray

The Selected Sets which were sent to Bursa was painted with a new Exterior paint of Green Mustard and Black livery and a New White Interior with yellow handpoles after they successfully tested Set 5259 on the Bursaray Rapid transit System.

Remain in Service

As a September 2014, 13 sets Still Remain in service with two sets which is not in service (5203, 5210, 5214, 5217-5219, 5221, 5234, 5236, 5238-5239, 5243 and 5245) as well as (5212 and 5258).

Level Crossing Accidents

Throughout the years on Calandlijn Section between Capelseburg to Ommond and Zevenkamp Section which always have accidents North of Graskruid at President Rooseveltweg Which Involveds sets 5217, 5227, 5230, 5233, 5246 and 5264.

De Akkers Fire

There has been a Fire Involved Sets 5201, 5217 and 5229 at Spoor 2 at De Akkers in 2006, Sets 5201 and 5229 were fully burn but Set 5201 Cab A end is preserved at Rotterdamse Museumtrams, Set 5229 is Fully Scrapped and Set 5217 was Repair and Return back to Service.
