Cable car

Post by Sjoerd »

Now that the NZH A600 is online, it's time to tell you about the next project I'm working on; a simulation of a San Francisco style cable car system. Trams can attach to the constantly moving rope (or let go) in the center slot between the running rails at will, so they can run at 15 km/h (or 9,5 mph) without engines, and are not bothered by steep slopes.

As this type of vehicle is not compatible with the Hageningen or Rijndam tram networks, it will come with it's own network.

There are two lines, so the destinations boards can be flipped over to show the information on the other route. The lines are;
  • Harbour - Market Street
  • Harbour - Washington Square

This picture (https://img.hoodline.com/uploads/story/ ... s_copy.jpg) inspired me to make a open body variant too;

The 'special' animations for the vehicles are;
  • Shift+X - Open/close front door
  • Ctrl+X - Open/close passenger compartment doors
  • Ctrl+Shift+X - Flip destination boards to show the other line
Here is a track-map of the network:

There are still 5 tramstops which do not have a name yet; I would welcome your suggestions. And also on a name for this (small) city. ;)

That looks like a nice project coming along here

Thought of some stops name by just changing names in San Francisco and other: (Original name in SF)

- Great Road (Grant Ave)
- Simtra Ave
- Casino Street (Castro Street)
- Darkline Ave (Skyline Boulevard)
- City Street
- Texas Street (California Street)
- Market Ave (Market Street)

I am not good at naming things but I gave it a go :D
Can't wait to see more progress on this new map, small or large, still an addition to the game none-the-less

I have a suggestion for the first stop: Waterlooplein because I've always wanted an Amsterdam stop, be it metro tram or bus :-)

I'd decline to name anything Dutch for this route.
Here two suggested names for this new map: 'San Frances' or 'San Franklin'.

"Roosevelt Avenue" and "Eagle Street" would be great names for the route stops.
For one side, it remembers one of the USA presidents; for the other side, it remembers a national symbol for the americans: the eagle.

BTW, great project, @Sjoerd! ;) Keep the good working!

He's some positive feedback. In American English, most words ending in 'our' does not have the 'u' in the word. So in this case, it's not 'Harbour' but instead, it's 'Harbor'.

As a Californian, what if we combine some other cities in the state? For an example, Chula Viejo. (Names derived Chula Vista and Mission Viejo, CA irl)

@SFMUNI is missing out on this.
