Route suggestion - Mattapan Trolley

Post by Nicolas »

I'm not sure if suggestions are well received, but recently I discovered a route in real life that in my opinion would fit this game very well. The Ashmont-Mattapan "High Speed" line in Boston is only 2.6 miles long and uses PCC streetcars, of which there is already a very good model ingame. The reason why it does is because the line would need upgrading for any kind of modern stock, and little ridership does not justify large investments into it.

I figure a route loosely based on it would be a good way for MSB to step foot in America. What do you think?

Rome wasn't biult in a day, nor were Rijndam or Simvliet, so it would certainly require some time to be built ;)

Of course all of this could never be a "one day" project.

The thing I noticed is that the ingame PCC only has doors in one side, meanwhile the Mattapan trolley has doors on each side because there is a station with a middle platform.

Some PCC are indeed built like that. San Francisco has both uni and bidirectional variants.

I ment it as a “make a map in a day project” since it seemed like a small map to recreate and it could be a fun little challenge , i dont really know

@Sjoerd, I live in Boston myself, and it would be great to see this! I would love to drive on something from my hometown.

I have made a small initial start with this back in august.... Not much yet, as I currently don't have much time and other projects have more priority.

If I continue on this, I think I will have to compromise a bit on this end station; the (in the screenshot not-yet build) switches and turns here are far too tight for the simulator to handle (with the switches that are available to build with). :D

ps. The Openstreetmap basis is just a tool to get the scale and distances right. This can't be seen in the simulator.
