NZH A500 / B500

Post by Sjoerd »

Also soon available; the NZH "Budapesters" (named after the city where they were build) of the 'low 500 series' (501-512).
These trams were in use between 1924 and 1958 on the standard gauge network of the NZH (in full; NZHTM, Noord-Zuid Hollandse Tramweg Maatschappij).

The NZH "Blue tram network" had a series of standard gauge tramlines and meter-gauge lines. The standard gauge network had the following connections:
  • Scheveningen - The Hague - Voorburg (local service)
  • The Hague - Voorburg - Voorschoten - Leiden
  • Leiden - Rijnsburg - Katwijk
  • Leiden - Rijnsburg - Noordwijk
  • Leiden - Lisse - Haarlem
  • Leiden Rijndijk - Oegstgeest (local service)
All NZH tram services ended november 1961, when bus services replaced the trams (for example the line The Hague - Leiden stil runs today als busline 45), and the tracks were removed in a matter of weeks.

The trams of this series consisted of a (bi-directional) motorcar (A500) and one or two trailercars (B500). They were build with the local service Scheveningen - Voorburg in mind, but they where also seen on the rest of the network, even though their relatively low maximum speed (50 km/h) made them less suitable for the The Hague - Leiden line.

Trivia: Motorcar A504 was lost in it's first year of operation. On 23 june 1924 it collided with a steam locomotive of the Dutch Railways at the levelcrossing at Leiden Lammenschans (currently a viaduct). The tram could not be saved, and later it's number was taken over by motorcar A512 (which was renumbered to A504). Pictures, and the story in Dutch: https://www.blauwetram.nl/11400.htm

The model is based on the Sketchup creation by Johannes K. (https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/ ... 1d172/Tram)

Oh, older trams... I like it.

I'm so far behind when it comes to the latest train releases. Still have to download lots of the newer stuff.

It probably isn't really much on topic but... It reminds me of my city's trams! https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tranvia_di_Opicina (sorry could not find any english page, you can always translate it for yourself :D )
