You could try to run Wine via Rosetta (the x86-64 version) on your M1 and then install the simulator. On Linux, it works fine via Wine, so it will probably run on the os X version of wine. Didn't even know derailments were possible... :o If you try hard enough, for example, setting a switch with the J key or CVL, then driving over it and setting it again while the train is still on there. Or as I did in the above screenshots, just keep repeatedly pressing J while crossing the switch.
