When you have done the Starting Tutorial its now time to drive a train. But how to drive it? Here you will find it out.

Placing a train (Explore only)

In explore mode you need to place your train before you can use it. For placing a train you go to the left side with your mouse. Click on the train icon. Now you see a screen with all the trains available in this beta version. Select the train of your choice and the amount of the trains by pressing the add button. After that select the station were you want to place your train. When done press OK and the train was loaded on the selected station.
Warning Icon.png The beta does not yet check if the track is free, be careful not to place 2 trains at the same start point. Warning Icon.png

Add icon.png opens Add.png

Select your train and get in

Before you can start your train you first need to select it. You can select your train in the consist bar in the bottom of the screen. On the left side of the consist bar you can scroll to all the trains loaded on that moment. Click on the cab to get in the train.

Consist bar.png

Starting the train

The first point before you can drive is to start the train. To start the train press Ctrl+F4. Now you be able to drive the train. If you stay on a station with overhead wire you can't drive directly, you have to put the pantograph up with Ctrl+P, now the train has power to drive. This last step is only for overhead wired tracks.

Standard driving

Beside the ATB (read that page for information about the ATB) you can drive now. To drive forward first be sure the train is in PZ throttle (MG2,SG2 and RSG2) or in Rij throttle (RSG3 and SG3). You can chance that with the Q, and W, keys. Then you can press the >, for more traction or the <, for the brakes. You can see your speed and the maximum speed in your front. For braking is a maximum of 4.00 for the MG2,SG2 and RSG2 and a maximum of 0.75 for the RSG3 and SG3 comfortable for the passengers. For throttle is no maximum.

Proffessional Driving - Part 1 Starting Up the Train and Cabin

MetroUnderConstruktion text.png

Prior to the start at the depot

In this subject you will learn how to drive the Metro in a proffesional way as real as it gets.

In this introduction of proffessional driving it is recommended to have a proper chair/seat behind a steady Desk Check out all wiring of your PC and keyboard. Check out the Monitior and sound system.

The start will be at the depot. When entering the drivers room then notify the service you have to drive, Study the information like the warrants, procedures and enhanched information in order to the service you have to drive, so you will not surprised when you're driving.

A departure list in the drivers room tells you normaly which trains on which track is set for your service. At the RET driversroom there are tiny memo/notes containing three major issues which you have to fill out according the train dispatching list. Three major things: train consists (a set of train/waggon numbers) the track where the train is situated and the departing direction.

Now take your coffee (or tea) an have your little newspaper time.

When done you now go outside to the right track and check the trainnumbers in the trainconsist as you had already noted on your tiny memo.

All traintypes

Walk to the rear of the train and check in the meanwhile if there is some damage at the outside. Do so only from the serviceplatform.

DO NOT step in between the trains and DO NOT walk across the track without permission of the CVL. Because there is High Voltage and this is deadly. The currency is 750-800 Volts DC.

Check out the automatic coupler if the coupler is set properly and the electrical connection box is closed by a special lit. When the coupler is still open then you have to rest the coupler manualy. Now you have to get at the track and pull the red wire which is situated in the coupler. At the electic cover there is a red lever which should be put in the up-right position (If not the cover of the electrical connection will be set in place by moving the lever). When the Wire is at the side of the 3rd rail then leave the coupler for as it is untill you will have the possibilty somewhere later on to pull the red wire from a save position. REMEMBER: Your safety!

Now get in the cabin at the rear of the train and activate that cabin. Switch on the interior lights of the complete train. Check the ATB Cabsignal, it should show "ATB in", "Yellow 20" or "Yellow 10". Check out if the "High Voltage" (Hoogspanning) light is litted (lunar-white).

The B type train (Not in Beta 3.6)
Now the RIS screen will start up (not available in the Sim) in the meanwhile check out the left closet (Not available in the Sim) for the safety-flashlight-box if it is present and if the lights will work, Check out if the Red Flag is present, check out if the lockerhooks ain place (to lock a door manualy at situations or door-erros) and check out if the walky-talky is present.

Now step into the cabin and set your train service number in the RIS screen. Put on the CVL Radio and set the train service number again in that radio (not in the sim available) the display of the CVL Radio should normally show the trainnumber and radiochannel like this: 091/905 (Channel 91 service 905) This is at the RET a service at the D line between Spijkenisse and Rotterdam Central Station. Make contact with the CVL in order to test the radio. after approval, switch off the radio and lock the cabin. Bu shure it is properly locked in order to avoid entrance of travellers.

Checking the doors

Step outside the train (Keyboard 9, use arrows to look at the front) and check out the front lights there should be 3 lights litted in an A model. Now open and watch the doors at the right side above the side window and close them, watch the Green Door-Arrow light. Do the same for the left side. Now sit down and repeat the left and right side using the buttons at the driversconsole itself do so for the left side and then the right side. When there is no High Voltage, raise the Third rail Shoes Ctrl+Iand check if high Voltage is present.

After activation of the systems you now strike the test button and check out if all lights will lit and acoustic signals are alarming. Test in the meanwhile the Typhon/Horn, but do not test when your train is closely to apartmentblocks and houses before 7.00 am (Nice when you should live along the railroad of the Subway and drivers will test the typhon/horn at 5.30 am. The inhabitans will love this that early.) Better test the Typhon later on quite shortly in an areay between cities, surburan areas or close to a forrest or farmland.

When Ok shut down the cabin and lock the door, the train itself will remain in startup mode.

Walk through the train to the next cabin/helperconsole and while walking check out the emergency glasses and the emergency brake appliers if they are properly set in place at every doorside and emergency brake. When a glass is lacking or broken you have to disable that door. This will be explained later on. Check also the complete interior of the train for any damage.

Repeat this sequence for every waggon in your trainconsist untill you ended up in the cabin you'll start to drive. When entering the last cabin repeat the sequences and now set the destination in the RIS. Now put on the CVL radio, set the train service number and channel. This number should be identical to the radionumber at the rear of the train.

Now there should be some room at the track to make some running tests. Set the drivers switch in the position: "Rij" and give 10% thrust untill you reach a speed of about 5 km/h. Switch the thrustlever free (0% thrust) and check if the roll-out is normal. Then apply the rail brakes emergency brakes in order to test these brakes.

When everything is OK, report yourself ready for service at the CVL. Check now the ATB Cabsignalling and the dwarf/shuntersignal. You must have Green 35 and two white lights at the dwarf/shunter signal in order to depart.

Now the first part is done, you are now driving to the first station to pick up passengers.

Preparing Type T at start

Type T CabinConsole LayOut.jpg

Warning Icon.png During the Start-Up sequence mention that not all functions are appliable! Warning Icon.png

To start type T from stand-by mode it is important to improve all wiring, PC, Mouse, keyboard, Monitor and soundsystem.

Start up: First of all you walk to de rear of the train you start with. on your way to the rear check out for any damage as notified before.

Open the door using a quadrant-key if the door is presurised the pneumatic force. (Not Simulated)

Once inside turn on the cab using the drivers-key. This keylock is at the left console just underneith the train mode lever. In the Sim you use Ctrl+F4to do so.

LinkerConsole Rijkeuze.jpg

The original Train Mode Lever contains four positions: Image: The Left Lever

1 - Rij (drive) = Ctrl+F4

2 - H (Helperposition during mainainance at the depot)

3 - Null 0 (Switch Off) Shift+F4

4 - Sch ("Schoonmaken" Cleaning mode - used during the cleaning period)

The Driver Mode Lever (DML). (Image: the Right lever)

This lever contains and Knob with a special function mention the knob just above the Driver Mode Lever. This Knob is not available in the Sim but to go in reverse (Mostly used by decoupling) pull this knob out towards you and the Driver Mode Lever is unlocked. Keep the knob up and move the DML in reverse position Ra or S/Pa The last mode position S/Pa is rarely used.

There are 5 positions mentioned at the DML Use Qor Wuntill the demanded position is shown in the statusbar left-below.

1 - R (Rangeren Shunting) Max amp = 90A, max speed 8 km/h

2 - S/P (Serial Parallel) Max amp = 400A, smootly gain speed.

At high speed 50 km/h and more this position maintains the speed roughly when P/Z is used. Switch back from P/Z to S/P)

3 - P/Z (Parallel Zwakveld Parallel Tempered Field mode) Max = Amp 600A, max speed 80 km/h, the basic maximum speed for Type T Allthought the Randstadrail modification could speed up to roughly 88 km/h.

4 - Ra. This position is equil to postion 1 in R mode

5 - S/Pa. This positon is almost equil to position 2, but in reverse.

In reality this could be used when the drivers cabin in the drivers direction is mallfunktioning.

In this case a 2nd driver should be in the mallfunctioned cabin in order to guide the driver in the rear cabin.

Never drive Without 2nd driver at the other cabin in such cases. Allthough you can test and simming just pretending there is one in the other cabin.

The last item om the left console is the light Stuurstrrom in Controling Power It tells de driver Power is supplied in order to control the complete train.

Now at the side left (out of sight there is a black button. Which is the Dead-man additional button. This is in used when the driver required special sight when running the train. The train will continue running while de the driver bend over for a better sight of the track or if nessesary leaning out the window at the left.

The Middle ATB cabsignal Console

Middenconsole ATB.jpg

Now when you look closely to the main ATB Cabsignal console you will discover the placements of the ATB cabsignaling. Take a closer look to the speedgauge directly left and right there are rows of colored numbers.

The signals are placed according the place of the needle at some certain speed ristriction. This means when you recieve Yellow 20, the signal apeares similair close to the 20 km/h marker at the speedgauge in the left row. Green 80 is shown in the right lane at the bottom just aside the 80 km/h marker at the speedgauge.

The ATB signals in following order (at an other Metro Wiki page this is explained with common images)

1st Left row: (from bottom to top) Yellow 10 (0 Permissive), Yellow 20, Green 35, Green 50

1st right row: (from top to bottom) Yellow 50, Green (nopt in use) Green 70, Green 80

All ATB Speed signals are placed clockwise in sequence.

2nd Left row: (From Bottom to top) Gold Permisive Button , Red ATB Storing (error), Yellow brake symbol (10 Absolute), Red STOP signal (0 Absolute)

2nd Right row: (from top to bottom) Bleu arrow, Yellow marker: Vrijloop (Brake Drive Handlebar is set in 0 Position), White ATB in, and Black Deblocking Button.

Plainly again the both 2nd rows are fitted clockwise.

The deblocking button is installed to deblock an ATB error. (is not simulated in the sim)

In order to overrule/deblock an ATB error in reality, here is the sequence:

1 - Press the Black Deblocking Button and keep it pressed.

2 - Activate the Emergency brake at the right Driver Handlebar Console.

3 - Release the Deblocking Button.

4 - Reset the Emergency Brake to its original position.

Now the error is solved.

The Permissive button (use ~`in the sim) is to be used when yellow ATB Signals apeares. Press the button every 8 seconds in order to overrule the ATB warning signal (After 8 seconds an acoustic signals is sounded) Press the button before the acoustic signal starts to ring.

When you do not press the permissive button, the brakes will apply automaticly and the train will stop.

Important: The permisive Buitton is NOT equil to a Deadman pedal! The permisive Button is an Alerter!

Pneumatic Brakes

PneumaticheRemmenCabsig.jpg

At the top right of the ATB Console there are two green Signallights containing a brake symbol. This shows the driver when the pneumatic brake are in use.

The first green signal tells the driver the brake is in use in the the controlled car (1st car). The second signal tell the driver if the penumatic brakes are in use in the uncontrolled cars (those cars of where the driver is not controlling the train).

The penumatich brake will allways kick in at 8 km/h or lower. This braking requires a special way of braking and requiers some experaince in order to use this brake system properly.

Now for example: when the 1st pneumatic signal is lit and the 2nd remains unlit then there is an electric brake error in the controlled car. The signal will lit at the moment you start to apply the brake by using the Driveres handlebar.

An other example: Only the 2nd signal will lit when applying the brake according the first example.

Metion the presure at the brake presure gauge the presure should be least 7 Atm. When the pneumatic is lesser than 7 Atm. the train will stop due to lack of presure. In this way the Stationar Brake works the same. At the right upper console there is a yellow light with a brake symbol telling you if the stationary brake is applied (Not in the Sim available). The Parking/Stationary brake is set when switching of the Cabin.

How to drive with pneumatic brakes will be mentioned later on.

Pantograaf.jpg

The pantograph

PantograafBediening.jpg

Underneith the Pneumatic Brake Signals there are two silver colored buttons and a key hole.

To raise the pantograph you need to use a patograph key. Before you start to drive onto a track with catenary. Be shure you have places the common key into the key hole left of the two buttons.

Now move the key clockwise en lock the key in position and start driving not exceeding 48 km/h. When the catenary starts overhead, put the handlebar in 0 position. Check the Free Roll-Out "Vrijloop" light if it is lit.

At the bleu signpost with the white bar verticaly, press the two silver colored buttons (In the sim use Ctrl+P). Check the Lunar white lamp High Voltage "Hoogspanning in" with the Flashlight symbol. If the light will blackened out then redo the whole sequence again. If that light remains litted: continue driving.

Now to lower the pantogroph in the cabin notify the quadrant with four buttons (Actually three buttons and a Light)

PantoNeerCab.jpg

The upper left button is the button you need to press to lower the pantograph (in the sim Shift+P. When the pantograph lowers it will lower quite slowly, never the less the panto will lower down and will rest in a locked position during third rail service. At the moment to panto comes in the resting position you can hear it comes down into the locker. At that moment the light in the pressed button will lit. If not the panto has not set right in the locker position.

You have to redo the whole sequence when the panto is not set properly. This means you have to raise up the panto according the mentioned sequence for raising up the pantograph.

During the mometn you raise up the panto quickly press Lower Pantograph will lower the panto with more power and weight so it will locked properly after all. Now the light "pantograaf neer" will lit in the pressed button.

To be shure if the panto is lowered check outside using the 3Right Mouse click and/or the arrow buttons.

LinkerPaneel.jpg

The Error Console

The Error console provides most tools to overrule and/or fix an error.

KoppNoodrROverb.jpg

The decouple button and Emergency Brake testfacillity

At the side just above the Driver Mode Console there is a small console which provides you the information about the brakes. At the left side you'll find a silver colored button which is the decoupler. Press this button in order to decouple the train. This issue will be expalined later on.

Then you'll notice two buttons underneith each other containing the tesfacility of the emergency brake. This must be tested during the start up procedure. Press the button "Test noodremmen" and check if the red light will lit in the test button. If the red light is not litted then a emergency brake somewhere in the train has been activated.

While walking through the train during the start up procedue you probaly find a pulled emergency brake. If so then use your quadrant-key to reset the pulled Emergency brake. Move the key clockwise and push the pulled lever back up to its original position. Now listen if the treain release the brake (You will hear the sound of releasing air)

When you find no solution for the emergency brake then you will have to press the overrule button to overrule the emergency brake. In this case you are not allowed to transport passengers and the train mus get to the depot for repair.

When you start up the train and you discover a activated button of overruling the Emergency brake. Then a mechanik or qualified person is needed to de-activate the emergency brake by using a reset key. therefore there is a keyhole present in the button.

Allthough the emergency brake and the reset or overrule sequence is not simulated in the Sim.

The Automated Coupler

Koppeling.jpg

The Couple procedure:

1 - Drive the train slowly up untill about 1 meter/3 ft from the other train using S/P or R not exceeding 8 km/h.

2 - Now stop and place the Driver Mode Lever in R position.

3 - Now toggle between Drive and Neutral with the Driver Handlebar and drive carefully not exceeding 2 km/h.

4 - Set the handlebar in the Neutral position and roll out (No Power or thrust) untill the train couples.

5 - Switch off the cabin as usual.

6 - Move the mouse downwards untill the consist bar appeares.

7 - Click the cabin at the side you want to continue driving.

The Decouple procedue:

1 - Stop the train and make shure you left 3 ft over before the platform ends or common stopping place.

2 - After stopping the train open all doors at platfrom side.

3 - Switch off as usual.

2 - Move the mouse to the consistbar.

3 - Click on the cabin of the train which will remain in the station facing the other waggon.

4 - Switch on that cabin.

5 - Close all doors.

6 - Put the DMl in the R position.

7 - Press Shift+oto decouple.

8 - Toggle shortly between Drive and Neutral untill the train moves backwards.

9 - Stop the train and switch off.

10 - Choose your train as usual in the consitsbar and continue driving the other train you just decoupled following standard procedures.
