That metro uses the French air-tired system. That would require making new tracks....

The Athens metro!
Some interesting features:
• 3 lines: 1 fully undergound (opened in 2000), 1 half underground-half overground (opened in 2000) & 1 fully overground (opened in 1869)
• 2 Molenwijk-sized depots and 2 Bergpark-sized ones
• 2000 rolling stock running along with 2014 rolling stock
• 65 stations with 6 more under construction
• Both 3rd rail and overhead wire used
• Max speed: 80 km/h
• 84.5 km system length
