Unfortunately, you can’t remove trains from the game, neither in activities nor in explore mode.

Although, you could move the train to an unused siding, or you could just quit the game.

You can't remove, but if your Metro is broken just call CVL, tell them your metro is broken, tell the passengers to get off the metro and non-stop go to the main depot and get the replacement metro. (In real life somebody else brings it to the station for you, or maybe yourself idk, experts know that)

I think if the metro is defective (so not usable in passenger traffic) but still driveable, the CVL will want you to take it out of service and proceed to the depot immediately. On the main line, it will only be in the way and cause delays for other in-service trains (so it would not be convenient to wait for somebody else to bring a new metro and collect the defective one); there usually aren't many out-of-use sidings available where you can park out of the way.
Once you have arrived at the depot, you will probably be issued a replacement consist (if available), and re-enter the service as soon as possible.

Depends on how broken it is, depending on the kind of malfunction the train may continue service until the end of the day, until the end of the current route or it must be taken out of service immediately. In the second case, if you happen to pass the depot on the way they will try to give you a replacement there (in Rotterdam on lines A, B and C the station next to the depot has four tracks, so they put a replacement on the other side of the platform, passengers and driver change train and the broken one goes into the depot). Of course in the case where 'broken' means unable to continue, taking it out of service would require it to be pulled to the depot by another train.
