Did somebody call the NS1700 ugly?

What? They are ugly.

Its design just doesn't look right. Don't worry. Us Amercans made some bad designs in our lifetime too.
An example:

And that Freightliner Class 70 locomotive is also an ugly:

This would be my nomination for most ugly train. I'm glad we got rid of them! ->> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V250_(train) (Not only the shape like an oldfasioned handheld vacuum cleaner, but also the terrible livery  )
And what did we get instead? Yes; the TRAXX locomotives hauling ICRm carriages :D (At least, until the new ICNG enters service in 2021)

Not that far from this abomination. (Amtrak, what were y'all thinking?)

The NS 1600/1700 locos were based on the "Nez-Cassé" (broken nose) design by French industrial designer Paul Arzens. And yes quite some people dislike it. A successful design however. Several series in and outside France (including the Dutch) were based on it. Links to several SNCF series below:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SNCF_CC_40100

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SNCF_Class_BB_7200

Even Amtrak gave it a try:

And yeah I know the locos look kinda angry :P

I was actually thinking of doing that one too, as it is the diesel version.... But I found out it is a few meters longer, uses 3-axle bogies (which is what the "CC" means), and has different driver controls. So I could not do it as just a simple variation; it would be a whole new project asking a lot of attention. Therefore I decided against it (for now, at least).

I think we do need a diesel mainline locomotive in Metro Simulator at some point in the future.

We have 6000 shunters and NS 2200 locomotives for now though, but it appears that 6000 do
work for the railways as well, never mind just for RET!

Apart from not being equipped with ATB-EG, the RET 6000 locomotives only have a tractive effort of 66kN which is not a lot. For comparison, the NS 2200 has a force of 185kN and they used up to four of these in multi traction. So no, RET 6000 is a shunt locomotive, and should not be confused for anything else.
