Those two bits of national railwayline are not connected. In thought about it, but decided against it. It would mean building a long stretch of railwayline and scenery, including a big Central Station complex. Especially for this last element; there are no objects available at this time to create a big mainline train station. Also, the freight train would be out of sight (seen from the metro tracks) so long, you would only encounter it by chance.

There is however a connection between Depot Molenwijk and the railway, if you want to get a metro on there

Some places in the world have a freight line that isn't used often. All I'm saying is why can't it be connected. The details on the path are not required.
