In LA and several other cities have 2 types of fare gates.
One for personnel, one for handicap and vehicles(strollers[trollies], etc.)

In Athens, all the gates are the same, but in each station, there are 1 or 2 gates with larger gap between them for handicapped people.

Yup, I guess it is like that in every modern railway commuter system. We do have in Valencia a wider gate too for people with reduced mobility, trolleys, etc..
