For archives, posts on previous pages or conflicting posts mid conversation only. (Though I broke that rule quite a few times)

Just think of it like you do in real life. When someone just asked you "Do you want a glass of water", you don't reply "You just asked me if I wanted a glass of water, my answer is yes". However, if you respond to a question asked some time ago, you do say "Last month you talked about buying a horse, are you still planning to?"
