paint.net IS the "new" MS Paint. It's the "small brother", and it's no very hard to use. If you use paint, you can use paint.net

Well, Paint.NET is based on Microsoft paint with Microsoft as mentor. But it isn't made by Microsoft itself. Beside that its easy to work with so if you don't understand it, try it!
