There is no other way; in explore mode, the AI has no service instructions (in activities provided by the combined ACT and CTD files), so it does not have the instruction to pass a certain station. Therefore, it will follow the default setting programmed into the stopmarkers by the routebuilder, which is usually to stop at the station (or 'stop and deactivate' at terminal stations).
